The Boston Conservatory, located in Boston, is a performing arts conservatory that grants undergraduate and graduate degrees in music, dance, and musical theater. It awards Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees as well as graduate performance diplomas and artist diplomas.
Twenty-five separate curricula are offered within several departments: piano, strings, voice and opera, woodwinds, brass, harp and guitar, percussion/marimba, and composition. The school’s multi-disciplinary approach provides students with broad exposure, combining rigorous practical training with class time, practice, ensemble rehearsals, and performances.
The Theater Division has a strong focus on musical theater. Students are trained in all aspects of theater productions, which include stage skills such as speech, dance, movement, and voice development, as well as technical skills such as directing and stagecraft. The primary focus of the school is to prepare students for a professional life in the theater, and this includes special training in real-life artist skills such as auditions, readings, and interviewing skills.
The school offers many opportunities to perform in front of an audience, including musicals and plays. As a matter of fact, the school sponsors more than 200 public performances by students, faculty, and guest artists. The performance schedule reaches its climax with a senior showcase in New York City and springtime concerts with the Boston Pops.
The school is part of Berklee College of Music and is located in the heart of the Back Bay, with all the cultural and entertainment options at its fingertips.
