The Episcopal Divinity School was founded in 1974. While an Episcopal seminary, it also trains students from other denominations not seeking ordination in the Episcopal Church. The School has relationships with Harvard Divinity School and nine other divinity schools in the Boston area. The School shares part of its campus and other resources with Lesley University.

The School offers Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Theological Studies, and Doctor of Ministry degrees, as well as certificates in Anglican studies. Graduate certificate programs are also offered.

Students may enroll in a traditional program built around Fall and Spring terms, or choose the Distributive Learning option based on two annual, intensive on -campus experiences during the January and June terms, plus online distance learning opportunities in Spring and Fall. The Doctor of Ministry degree is designed to allow applicants to remain fully employed during their studies. It is completed through a combination of on-campus residencies and distance learning.

The School is located on a beautiful campus in Cambridge near Harvard Square, only steps away from public transportation.
