Bridgewater State University is a public liberal-arts college located in Bridgewater, MA. It was founded in 1840 and is the largest state college outside of the University of Massachusetts system.

The school offers 25 undergraduate majors and 12 graduate majors in business, education, science, and the humanities. It also offers adult, continuing education programs. The most popular majors are psychology, business, communications, education, criminal justice, biology, and social work. The school is well known for its teacher education, and in fact, it has the largest teacher enrollment in the state.

The university has an active student life with over 160 clubs and organizations. It also has a strong athletic tradition. The intercollegiate athletic program offers 21 varsity teams, including basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, baseball, football, and wrestling for men. As for the women’s sports teams, they include basketball, cross country, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, field hockey, lacrosse, softball, and volleyball.

The college's 235-acre campus is located in Bridgewater, MA, about 25 miles from Boston. The majority (66%) of students at the university are commuters. Public transportation to Boston is available via commuter rail.
