The New England Conservatory is the oldest and one of the most respected schools in the country. It offers undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees as well as preparatory classes and continued education.

At the college level, the conservatory offers the Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts, as well as the undergraduate diplomas, graduate diplomas, and artist diplomas. Also offered are five-year joint double-degree programs with Harvard University and Tufts University

The school offers training in classical, jazz, contemporary improvisation, world and early music. In the Preparatory School and School of Continuing Education, the school provides training and performance opportunities for 1600 children, pre-college students, adults, and seniors. Through its community collaboration programs, the school gives their young musicians the opportunity to engage with non-traditional audiences in schools, hospitals, and nursing homes.

The school has an ongoing relationship with the Boston Symphony Orchestra of which nearly half the musicians are NEC trained musicians or faculty.

The school has five performance halls ranging from the 100 seat Pierce Hall to the 1013 seat Jordon Hall which is considered one of America's most acoustically perfect performance spaces. It is the only conservatory building in the United States to be designated a National Historic Landmark. Over a thousand free performances are held at Jordan Hall by NEC students.

The college is located in the heart of Boston with an abundance of cultural venues and an almost unlimited choice of entertainment and recreational possibilities.
