Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT) is one of the oldest technical colleges in the country. In fact, it was established by Benjamin Franklin through his will in 1789. The school offers job training and degree programs in technical, engineering and health related areas such as computers, electronics, mechanical and automotive technologies and medical technician assisting. It grants certificates, associate and bachelor's degrees.

The mission of the school is to provide education to students pursuing career-based paths. The college strives to develop technical and professional skills as well as individual values that help to create a foundation for success, civic responsibility and life-long learning. The college adheres to the principles put forth by Benjamin Franklin in his writings about education and citizenship.

The college emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world experience. Students often have the opportunity to work on projects that reflect the skills and knowledge they are gaining in their programs. It maintains connections with local industries and employers, helping students with job placement and internships.  The institute attracts a diverse student body, including individuals seeking to start their careers, change careers, or enhance their existing skills.

The school provides students the ability to transition to four year programs at affiliated colleges such as Northeastern University, Wentworth Institute of Technology and Boston Architectural College.

The school is located in Boston's South End, one of Boston's most popular neighborhoods known for its Victorian brownstone buildings, its ethnic diversity and its many fine restaurants and stores. There is easy access to the subway.
